Chalkewadi Windmills Farm in Satara, Maharashtra, is one of the most beautiful places to experience the Western Ghats during the monsoon. Green hills, red soil, mist, strong winds and huge wind turbines create a landscape that feels completely different from the city.

📍 Where Is Chalkewadi Windmills Farm?

Chalkewadi Windmills Farm is located in Satara district, Maharashtra, near the Thoseghar area.

The wind farm sits on a large plateau surrounded by the Sahyadri hills. Maharashtra Tourism describes Chalkewadi as a major windmill farm spread across about a 5-kilometre plateau, with rolling hills, red soil and many wind turbines.

The area is also known for its beautiful monsoon landscape. During the rainy season, the dry plateau changes into a green landscape covered with grass and mist.

Best for greenery, clouds and monsoon views: June to September

For a rider who wants to see Chalkewadi at its greenest, the monsoon season is the most special time.

During the rains, the hills become lush green, clouds cover the Western Ghats, and the combination of windmills, mist and open landscapes creates excellent views. India Cine Hub specifically identifies monsoon as the best period for Chalkewadi and notes that Thoseghar Waterfall can be visible from some parts of the windmill area.

If you prefer cooler and more comfortable weather with less rain, October to March is a better choice for general sightseeing in Satara. Maharashtra Tourism lists October to March as Satara’s peak visiting period.

My recommendation for riders

For the classic Chalkewadi experience, I would choose a monsoon morning when the forecast is safe and visibility is reasonable.

❤️ Why I Love This Ride

For me, Chalkewadi is not only about windmills.

It is about the feeling you get when you leave the city behind.

No traffic. No office noise. No hurry.

Just the Himalayan 450, mountain roads, clouds, green hills and the sound of the wind.

Sometimes, we spend so much time thinking about work, responsibilities and the future that we forget to spend time with ourselves.

A ride like this gives you that small break.

A little silence. A little nature. A little me time.

And sometimes, that is enough.
